Led by Spike Sorrentino and Patricia Elmore Costa of San Diego's epic "Spontaneous Combustion" Improv Group, the AASD is proud to host a fun evening where we will learn and participate in a variety of improvisational exercises! Our Fearless leaders for this wacky workshop:
Spike has been a professional actor for over three decades with work from coast to coast in stage, film, TV, Trade Shows, the circus -- wherever they are hiring actors!
Mr. Sorrentino has directed numerous acclaimed pieces including San Diego's original improvisational troupe, "Spontaneous Combustion" and Whoopi Goldberg's first one-woman show. He also made history with a show at the San Diego Repertory Theatre that had a cast of prison inmates and was a benefit for the Crime Victims Fund. The show was a great success, and not even one inmate escaped.
He is only one of five San Diegans to win an Old Globe Comedy Award. Mr. Sorrentino, a past President of San Diego SAG, and former National Board member of AFTRA, performs on tour with the "Piparoos" (Comedy with Music).
Note: You are invited to bring a musical instrument to the workshop if you play music (but not Grand Pianos, please).
Patricia Elmore Costa
...another Spontaneous Combustion cast member trained with the Guru of improvisational theatre, Del Close, at Second City in Chicago, and was selected by Producer Bernie Sahlins of Second City, and Director Del Close to join the Second City company. This Workshop session is designed to help out the beginner who has never braved the skills needed for improv, AND
for the seasoned pro to keep your improv skills sharp.
Regular Improv exercises keep actors prepared for anything - from auditions to actual jobs - in theatre, commercials, television and film. Improv is the most fun way for an actor to "stay in shape" for anything, and everything that comes at you as a working actor!
Remember - in Improv, you alway say YES!!
So Please come!!
