Vocal Technique for the Stage

with

Celeste Innocenti

Course Description

Treat your voice like the fine instrument it is and learn to use and care for it properly.  This 5-week workshop in Vocal Technique for Actors will help students understand the art and science of speech and develop a strong, flexible voice through healthy speech habits.  Every class has opportunities for students to work and gain feedback in numerous ways, whether on their feet doing grammelot and other activities or by examining a wide range of texts and spoken material from modern to classical, including Shakespeare.   Through a linguistic approach, including phonetics and other features of language, students will gain self-awareness and learn tools to help them in all areas of performance and public speaking.   In addition, the course incorporates numerous theatrical techniques, including Linklater, Michael Chekhov, Dario Fo, and others, and special exercises will help students develop breath control, projection, and range.  A class website has the course syllabus and handouts, as well as links and extra practice material, so students can continue improving even after the course has ended. This course will feature a virtual classroom with exercises and handouts to assist with growth between classes.
